Mewery, a biotech company advancing next-generation protein production. They combine microalgae and mammalian cells in controlled bioreactors to build a scalable protein platform. The company has welcomed Dr. Moria Shimoni as Chief Technology Officer, achieved a significant breakthrough in scalable bioprocess performance, expanded its investor base with deep-tech venture fund Vesna Capital, and is currently raising additional funding to support its next stage of growth.

Dr. Moria Shimoni joins as CTO.

Mewery has appointed Dr. Moria Shimoni as Chief Technology Officer, bringing extensive experience in scaling cultivated meat technologies from her previous roles as CTO at Believer Meats (Future Meat Technologies) and Forsea Foods.

“The cultivated meat sector is entering a phase where technological robustness and industrial experience become critical. Moria brings exactly the kind of expertise needed to translate promising research into scalable production processes.”Roman Lauš, Founder and CEO of Mewery

During her career, Shimoni has contributed to the development of industrial cultivated meat production systems, including the design of one of the world’s largest cultivated meat facilities, the development of multi-species platforms, and the advancement of technologies toward pre-commercial production and regulatory approval.

“When I first saw Mewery’s co-cultivation concept, I instantly thought it was a real chance to overcome the toughest hurdles in the industry: efficiency, unit economics, and ultimately profitability.”Dr. Moria Shimoni, CTO of Mewery

Her appointment strengthens Mewery’s ability to move its technology from pre-pilot development toward industrial implementation.

Breakthrough in scalable cultivation.

Mewery has recently achieved a key milestone in its bioprocess development by mastering stable suspension cultivation of porcine cells, enabling a simplified and scalable production process without the need for scaffolding.

The company has also implemented a continuous growth and harvesting strategy, significantly increasing biomass productivity.

As part of this progress, Mewery reports achieving a biomass yield of 300 g/L, placing it among the highest-yielding approaches reported in the cellular agriculture sector. Higher biomass density increases productivity per cultivator and significantly strengthens the unit economics for cultivated meat production.

“Yield is one of the fundamental parameters determining whether cultivated meat can become commercially viable. Achieving this level of biomass density confirms that our technology can deliver the performance needed for industrial-scale production.”Roman Lauš, Founder and CEO of Mewery

New investor and ongoing funding round.

Alongside its technological progress, Mewery strengthened its position last year with the entry of the Croatian deep-tech fund Vesna Capital. This investor, which specializes in disruptive innovations with a high social impact, chose Mewery for its unique technological solution with the potential to transform the global food industry. For Mewery, this was a pivotal decision due to the fund’s strong international track record and its focus on groundbreaking innovations that will help the startup translate its research into industrial practice. The investment thus confirms growing confidence in the company’s long-term vision and its ability to succeed with scientific research on a global scale.

At the same time, Mewery is currently raising additional funding to support the next stage of development, including industrial validation of its technology, pilot-scale production with several partners in Europe, and regulatory preparations as the company moves closer to future commercialization.
